Coltrane: Blog Post #9

It's important to have a father figure in a child's life. As Coltrane stated " When fathers are active in infant care boys develop an intimate knowledge of masculinity"(433). It's different then when a woman tries to teach a male how to be one, rather than a man actually showing the child. A girl also should have a father figure also because it is said that some girls look for the love and attention in a man that they don't get from their own dads. And it's good for a child to know that some of the things they can't talk about with their mom they can talk to their dad about it and have the support from them as well.

  1. Nice start but needs development. What is the difference between a man and a woman teaching the son how to be a man? What "things" can a child talk to a father about but cannot talk to a mother about?
