The movie The Hangover and Grazian article "The Girl Hunt Urban Nightlife and the Performance of Masculinity as Collective Activity" both touch on similar ideas of the friendship men share. Grazian in his article points out the things that males do before going out. They play rap music and "pregame" by making sure they are dress appropiate and have drinks before going out. The guys stick together and help each other pick up girls and have fun with eatch other just "bonding". In Hangover it touches on some of the same ideas Grazian had. Four friends in Vegas for a bachelor party for Doug. Before they went out they got all dress up and Phil even expressed his disapproval of Alan wearing that man purse. All four friends went and "pregamed" having drinks on the roof of the hotel before going out to party. In"The Girl Hunt Urban Nightlife and the Performance of Masculinity as Collective Activity" it says "pregaming is a bonding ritual that fosters social cohension and builds confidence among young men in confidence among young men in anticipation of the challenge that accompany the girl hunt" (326 Grazian) Alan cutting his hand and giving a sppech about them being his friends for life this quote can also apply to Stu because him drinking gave him more confidence he married the stripper and pulled out his tooth because Alan dared him something he wouldn't normally do if he was sober. Grazian also says " the performance of masculinity does not require successfully meeting a potential sex partner as long as one enthusiastically participates in the ritual motions of the girl hunt in the company of men."(326) which in the movie the guys went to the strip club and were looking for hookers together. Like Grazian says men need each other which is proven in The Hangover they needed Phil to drive all over the place, Alan to win the money to get the other Doug back from the chinese guy who helped Stu figure out that Doug was on the roof.

Your paragraph contains interesting observations and references to Grazian's article as well as to the movie. But you were not asked to compare the movie and the article, but to use examples from the two in order to show what is the relationship between bromance and masculinity. Also, I don't understand this fragment" which in the movie the guys went to the strip club and were looking for hookers together"?
ReplyDeleteExcellent post.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have noticed about certain sites is that, even though they have tons of content, the site looks great and the headlines are eye catching is that the material is simply filler. It’s downright unreadable. You can forget it 6 seconds after you read it. Not the case with your post though, really enjoyed it reading it and it held my attention all the way through!
